PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Yolanda McCormick scored 24 points and Chanivia Broussard added 20 to help No. 18 Miami beat Providence 86-67 Tuesday.
The Hurricanes (16-1, 5-1 Big East) took over sole possession of first place in the Big East just ahead of No. 5 Connecticut, which is 4-1 in league play.
Miami also extended its winning streak to four games after shooting a season-high 60.7 percent.
Gayle Nwafili paced the Friars (4-12, 0-5) with a career-high 24 points, while Kristin Quinn added a season-high 20 points.
With the game tied at 10, the Hurricanes went on a 15-3 run to take a 25-13 lead.
Nwafili converted a three-point play to cut the lead to 27-21, but Miami ran off the last seven points for a 34-21 halftime lead.
Miami went to a full-court, man-to-man press to open the second half and increased its lead to 45-29. Providence rallied behind Nwafili but the closest the Friars could get was 47-37 with 13:19 left.
Broussard matched her season high with 14 rebounds, and Tamara James added 17 points.
