PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's soccer team was defeated by Brown University, 3-2, in soccer action on Tuesday, October 12 at PC's Glay Field in Providence. Brown's Andrew Daniels scored what would prove to be the winning goal at 48:56.

The Friars wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as junior Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine) opened the scoring 1:34 into the game. Lynch streaked ahead of the Brown defenders on a breakaway after taking a pass from junior Anthony Petrarca (Johnston, R.I.) and chipped a shot over Brown goalkeeper Chris Gomez to give the Friars an early lead.

Brown responded with an equalizer at the 21:31 as they scored off a corner kick. Forward Marcos Romaneiro sent a corner kick to the middle of the box that Ben Brackett headed in to tie the game at 1-1. Brown took the lead in the 37th minute when Keith Caldwell took a pass at the goal mouth and kicked a shot past Friar senior goalkeeper Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.).

Almost four minutes into the second half Daniels headed in a cross from Ian Premo to give the Bears a 3-1 lead. The Friars got within one goal with 19:53 remaining in the game when senior Derek Nobrega (Cumberland, R.I.) scored on a breakaway. Noberga's goal was similar to Lynch's goal in the opening minute of the game. Nobrega broke in and chipped a shot over Gomez. The Friars pressured to tie the score but were unable to get a shot past Gomez in the final minutes of the game.

Newman made nine saves in the loss for Providence
