PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's swimming and diving team was defeated by Montclair State, 152-77, in its season-opener at Taylor Natatorium in the Peterson Events Center.
Providence claimed a victory in the 400 meter freestyle relay as freshmen Ryan Barnicle (Newington, Conn.) and Chris Luft (Cheshire, Conn.) teamed with junior Frank LaMonaca (Cheshire, Conn.) and sophomore Tom McLoughlin (Leonardo, N.J.) to post a 3:59.46 win. The Friars also won the 200 meter breaststroke as sophomore Andrew Zockoff (Dover, Mass.) finished with a time of 2:45.79.
In the closest event of the afternoon, Montclair State's Ryan Gorsky posted a 0.38-second win over sophomore Brian Parker (Rocky Hill, Conn.) in the 800 meter freestyle. Parker finished with a time of 9:23.59.
Providence men's swimming & diving team returns to action Saturday, Oct. 30 as it travels to Fairfield, Conn., for a tri-meet at Fairfield University. The Friars will face Fairfield and Georgetown beginning at 1:00 p.m.
