PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College was defeated by Central Connecticut, 1-0, in men's soccer action on Tuesday, October 5 at PC's Glay Field in Providence. Central Connecticut's Alex Harrison scored his team leading 10th goal of the season to give the Blue Devils the win.
After a scoreless first half of back-and-forth action, Central Connecticut held a 7-5 advantage in shots. The two teams were held off the scoreboard until the 62:20 mark when Harrison received a cross from Jorden Holder and kicked in a shot past Friar goalkeeper sophomore Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.).
The Friars had an opportunity to tie the score with 17:28 remaining in the game when junior Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine) was awarded a penalty kick. Lynch kicked his penalty shot low to the right side and Central Connecticut's Andrew Sierman made a diving save to perserve the shutout. Sierman was injured with three minutes remaining in the game and was replaced by Chris Chiakpo, who was not required to make any saves in the game. Sierman finished with seven stops in the win.
Konopka recorded 10 stops for Providence.
The Friars will return to action on Saturday, October 9 versus Georgetown at PC's Glay Field at 1:00 p.m.
