Amy Thomas Named HOCKEY EAST Defensive Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 15, 2004) -- Providence College senior goaltender Amy Thomas (Austin, Texas) was named Women's HOCKEY EAST Defensive Player of the Week on November 15, 2004.

Thomas earned the honor for her outstanding defensive play in the Friars' most recent game versus the No. 3 Harvard Crimson. On Wednesday, November 10, Thomas allowed only two goals, both on the power play, and recorded 31 saves as Providence tied with Harvard, 2-2. Thomas is tied in second in the league and ranked 13th in nation in goals against average (1.97), and leads the league in minutes (547). Thomas is currently 23rd in the nation with a .910 save percentage and is 1-0-1 versus ranked teams this season.

Providence will begin HOCKEY EAST play against the Black Bears of Maine on Saturday and Sunday, November 20-21 in Orono, Maine at the Alfond Arena at 2:00 p.m.
