The Providence College women's hockey team defeated #6 St. Lawrence, 5-1, on November 7 at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. The Friars scored all of their goals on the power play.
Katelynn Laffin (Norwell, Mass.) began the offensive onslaught for Providence when she recorded her second goal of the season from an assist from Kristin Gigliotti (Sauquoit, N.Y.) and Emily Gryp (Lexington, Mass.) at 6:57. Junior Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.) followed with an unassisted goal at the 6:59 mark in the second period. Nearly seven minutes later Thatcher struck again as she scored at 13:58 from an assist by Gryp. Senior Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) tallied her fifth goal of the season from Gigliotti, at 11:51 in the third period.
At 14:20 of the third, Thatcher capped the Providence offense and completed a hat trick with assists from Zimmerman and Danielle Bourgette (Anaheim, Calif.).
Emilie Berlinguette, the lone Saint Lawrence scorer, did not allow the shutout as she scored at 19:36 with an assist from Laurie Ross.
Thatcher leads Providence with 16 points (10 goals, six assists) and has matched last season's offensive output in goals with ten in the first seven games.
Senior goalkeeper Amy Thomas (Austin, Texas) made 22 saves, while freshmen Meaghan Guckian posted 16 in her first defeat of the season.
Providence hits the road in non-conference action against #3 Harvard University on Wednesday, November 10 at 7:00 p.m.
