Men's Swimming Falls To Loyola, 127-95

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's swimming team won five events but lost to Loyola College, 146-96 in a swim meet held Saturday afternoon at PC's Taylor Natatorium. The PC men's swimming and diving team also won five events, but succumbed to the Greyhounds, 127-95.
On the women's side, sophomore Carolyn Rider (Freehold, N.J.) won the 200 meter medley relay with a time of 2:10.42, while senior Aylssa Meleski (Southington, Conn.) won the 50 meter freestyle in 29.54 seconds. Sophomore Katelyn Flynn (Sinking Spring, Pa.) rolled to a victory in the 200 meter individual medley event (2:32.46) as she edged teammate Rider by three seconds. Flynn also won the 100 meter butterfly with a time of 1:08.73. Sophomore Anne Nemeth (Kendall, N.Y.) rounded out the Friar score sheet with a victory in the 100 meter breaststroke. She mowed down the competition with a 1:17.04 showing, more than six seconds faster than the number two finisher.
On the men's side, sophomore Brian Parker (Rocky Hill, Conn.) won the 800 meter freestyle with a time of 9:23.86. Parker also won the 400 meter freestyle with a time 4:28.50, while junior Seth Brockman (Kenner, La.) won the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:23.20. Freshman Shane Farrell (Pawtucket, R.I.) won the one meter dive with a score of 100.00, while classmate Ryan Barnicle (Newington, Conn.) came up big in the 100 meter freestyle with a .21 second victory over two Loyola swimmers. He posted a first-place time of 56.38 in the closest race of the afternoon.
