Swimming Competes In Harold Anderson Invitational

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Providence College men's swimming and diving team placed second in URI's Harold Anderson Invitational, competing against the University of Rhode Island, University of Maine, and Holy Cross. PC tallied 332.50 points, helped by two first place finishes by junior Frank LaMonaca (Cheshire, Conn.). Additionally, the Providence women's swimming and diving team placed third posting 196 points.

The PC men's relay team won the 200-yard medley relay, with a 1:41.62 performance. Comprised of juniors Seth Brockman (Kenner, La.), Nick Taylor (Devonshire, Bermuda), sophomore Andrew Zockoff (Dover, Mass.), and freshman Garrett Chase (West Hartford, Conn.), the quartet beat out twelve other competing teams. PC also won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:15.19. LaMonaca, Brockman, Zockoff, along with freshman Ryan Barnicle (Newington, Conn.), won by less than two seconds as Holy Cross turned in a 4:44.21 time.

LaMonaca won first place in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.47. He continued his dominance by also winning the 100-yard freestyle with a 48.22 performance. LaMonaca won by 0.42 seconds, beating out fourteen other swimmers overall.

Senior captain Matthew Raske (New Rochelle, N.Y.) placed second out of twelve swimmers in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:42.60.

Zockoff placed second in the 200-yard individual medley with a performance of 2:01.99. He also placed second in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke with times of 1:00.99 and 2:15.14, respectively.

On the women's side, sophomore Annie Nemeth (Kendall, N.Y.) won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.17. Nemeth also placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:09.42 performance. Sophomore Emily Corcoran (Haverhill, Mass.) placed third in the same event with a time of 1:11.37.

Senior Jamie Moden-Cohen (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) won the one meter dive with a score of 201.35. Moden-Cohen also placed second in the three meter dive posting a 180.95 final score.

Providence men's and women's swimming & diving returns to action on Sunday, January 16 at the University of Maine.
