Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Providence College men's soccer team earned a 3-2 win over 25th-ranked Georgetown on Saturday, October 1 in Washington, D.C. The Friars were led by senior forward Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine) who recorded two goals, including the game winner in the 77th minute. The Friars are now 1-0-1 on the season versus ranked teams and remain as the only undefeated team in the BIG EAST with a 4-0-5 mark overall.

The Friars wasted little time getting on the scoreboard when freshman Tim Ritter (Weston, Mass.) tallied his third goal of the season in the fifth minute. Ritter took a pass Lynch and senior Zach Tobin (North Kingstown, R.I.) and shot the ball from eight yards out and beat Georgetown goalkeeper Andrew Keszler for what would prove to be the only goal of the first half.

Providence increased its lead to 2-0 just 2:11 into the second half when Lynch scored on a breakaway with a shot from six yards out. For Lynch it was his sixth goal of the season and the 24th of his career. With his 24th goal, he moved into third place on the Friars' all-time goals list. Ten minutes after Lynch's goal, the Hoyas cut the lead in half when Daniel Grasso picked up a PC turnover and blasted a shot from outside the box past PC junior goalkeeper Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.). In the 60th minute Georgetown forced a 2-2 tie on a goal by Jeff Curtin. Curtin headed in a corner kick form Brent Plumley from five yards in front of the net.

Lynch scored his second goal of the contest and the gamewinner in the 77th minute when he took a feed from Ritter and kicked in a shot from 10 yards out.

Georgetown took 21 shots and Konopka recorded five saves in the win. He now has registered a 4-0-5, a .860 save percentage and a 0.79 goals against average for the season.

Providence will return to action on Wednesday, October 5 at Connecticut at 7:00 p.m.
