PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's soccer team recorded a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Brown University on Tuesday, October 11. It marked the third tie in the last five meetings between the two cross-town rivals.
Providence, which has played eight overtime contests this season and recorded a team record seven ties, is now 4-1-7 on the season.
The Friars entered the game looking to earn their first win over the Bears since 1993. Providence took the first lead of the contest at 11:48 when freshman Kevin Neumen (Miller Place, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal. Sophomore Ryan Maduro (Bristol, R.I.) took a corner kick that Neumen headed into the net.
Neumen's goal stood as the only tally of the game until Brown's Andrew Daniels scored to tie the game with just 9:45 remaining in regulation. Daniels kicked in a loose ball after a scramble in front of the net.
In overtime, the Friars held a 5-0 shot advantage and forced Brown goalkeeper Jarrett Leech to make two saves. However, Providence was not able to get another goal and finished with its second 1-1 tie in the last two games.
PC goalkeeper Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) made three saves in 110 minutes of action. He has now allowed one goal or less in nine of the team's 12 games.
Providence will return to action on Saturday, October 15 versus Marquette at PC's Glay Field at 1:00 p.m.
