GREELEY, Colo. - The Providence College volleyball team (7-28) split a pair of matches on Saturday evening at the National Independent Volleyball Championships in Greeley, Colo. The Friars defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (13-15) by the score of 3-1 in their first match of the day. PC closed out 2005 season with a 3-0 loss to North Dakota State (5-31).
In the win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, senior Annie Fiorvanti (Northport, N.Y.) posted her third triple-double of the year with a match-high 37 assists, 13 digs and a season-high 12 kills. It also was the fourth triple-double of her career. For her performance, Fiorvanti earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.
Sophomore Sarah Fleming (Saint Paul, Minn.) tallied a career-high 15 kills and a .345 hitting percentage, while four other Friars including senior Allison Baker (Glastonbury, Conn.) and freshmen Aida Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.), Nonie Ferguson (Davie, Fla.) and Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added eight kills apiece. Freshman Amanda Little (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) notched a match-high 21 digs, her highest total of the month. As a team, PC totaled 61 kills, their fourth-highest total of the season, as well as 72 digs and a .166 hitting percentage.
Facing NDSU for the second time in two days, the outcome was no better as the Friars lost in three straight games and totaled just 20 kills. Fiorvanti had seven assists while Little had seven digs. Baker has totaled 693 kills on her career.
With today's win, PC posted its highest win total since the 2000 season when the Friars went 16-15. Fiorvanti ends her collegiate career fifth on PC's all-time assist list with 2,359. Little set the single-season school record with 627 digs.
