PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 28, 2005) -- It was announced today, November 28, 2005, that Providence College junior forward Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque, N.M.) was named Women's HOCKEY EAST Player of the Week.
Watrous led Providence to a 2-0 week as she contributed to six of the Friars eight goals on the weekend. Watrous added six points on two goals and four assists against Ivy League opponents Yale and Brown on Friday and Saturday, November 25-26. On Friday, Watrous scored the Friars' first goal and assisted on senior Ashley Payton's (Chesterfield, Mo.) game-winner. On Saturday, Watrous netted a goal and added three assists including one on senior Karen Thatcher's (Douglas, Mass.) game-winner in the third period.
Watrous leads the team with eight goals and is second on the team in scoring with 18 points (eight goals, 10 assists). Her 18 points places her 14th in the nation with 1.38 points per game. Watrous is ranked ninth in the nation with a team-leading four power play goals.
The Providence College Friars will close out their seven-game home-stand when they host 10th-ranked Harvard University, on Wednesday, November 30 at Schneider Arena at 7:00 p.m.
