NEWARK, N.J.-- The Providence College men's soccer team scored the only goal of the match in the first half and held on for a crucial 1-0 BIG EAST victory over Seton Hall Wednesday afternoon at Lubetkin Field. The Friars set a school record with their seventh BIG EAST Conference victory. In addition, the win also guarantees that Providence will host a BIG EAST Tournament first round match on Wednesday, October 25 at Glay Field.
Junior Alex Bury's (Shrewsbury, Mass.) strike from 25 yards out in the 22nd minute was the difference as the Friars improved to 11-4 overall and 7-3 in the conference. After a PC corner kick was cleared away, junior Michael Narciso (Livingston, N.J.) controlled the ball and played it to Bury, who ripped a right-foot shot that found the upper right corner of the net. For Bury, it marked his fifth tally of the season and his team-leading third game winner.
Seton Hall controlled much of the second half, outshooting Providence, 13-0, in the last 45 minutes and 19-4 overall. PC goalie Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) made four saves to earn his fifth shutout of season.
The Friars will complete the regular season on Saturday, October 21 with a 1:00 p.m. home match against fourth-ranked West Virginia on Senior Day.
