PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College men's soccer forward Jonathan Medcalf (Tulsa, Okla.) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week on Monday, October 2. It marks the second consecutive week that Medcalf has earned the honor. He also is the only rookie in the BIG EAST to earn the award twice this season. In addition, sophomore forward Timothy Ritter (Weston, Mass.) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
Medcalf helped the Friars to a pair of victories last week. On Tuesday, September 26, Medcalf scored the match-winning goal with 4:21 remaining to lift the Friars to a 3-2 victory over Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. He also capped off the scoring in a 4-0 victory over Georgetown on Saturday, September 30. Medcalf has scored one goal in four of the last five matches, including three consecutive contests. He leads the team in scoring with five goals.
Ritter scored the first goal of the match in PC's 3-2 win at Holy Cross on September 26. He also scored the first goal of the match and assisted on the second goal as the Friars went on to defeat Georgetown, 4-0, on September 30.
The Friars (8-2, 5-1 BIG EAST), who are off to their best start since 1984, are back in action on Tuesday, October 3 with a BIG EAST home match against UConn at 3:00 p.m. The match will air via tape delay locally on Cox Sports TV at 8:00 p.m.
