Men's and Women's Track Competes At Quinnipiac Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Providence College men's and women's track teams competed at the Quinnipiac Invitational on Wednesday, April 5 in New Haven, Conn. The women's team posted a 2-1 mark and the men's squad recorded a 1-2 record at the meet.

On the men's side the Friars were led by sophomore Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) and Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.) who each earned a first place finish. Smith won the 800 meters (1:53.43) and Haji captured the 3,000 (8:45.42). Senior Richard Jones (Wellington, New Zealand) also ran the 800 and finished second in a time of 1:53.63. Smith and Jones both qualified for the BIG EAST Championship. In PC's other first place finish, sophomore Armond Hodge (Trumbull, Conn.) won the long jump (20.09).

The women's team was led by senior Ashley Jensen (Lincoln, R.I.) who won the 3,000 steeplechase in a time of 11:23.15 and qualified for the BIG EAST Championship. PC's other first place finishers were freshman Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.), sophomore Mary Trefz (Iowa City, Iowa) and Laura Lynch. DiCamillo won the mile (5:08.24) and Trefz captured the 3,000 meters (10:28.60) Lynch won the long jump (16.02).
