PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's soccer team scored twice in each half en route to a 4-0 victory over Georgetown Saturday afternoon in a BIG EAST match at Glay Field. The Friars (8-2, 5-1 BIG EAST), who have won seven of their last eight matches, including three consecutive triumphs, earned their eighth overall victory of the season, the most since 1999. In addition, PC recorded its fifth conference triumph of the campaign, which is its best mark since winning five in 2002.

Providence controlled the match from the onset and took the lead for good late in the first half. The Friars, who scored twice off corner kicks in a win over Holy Cross Tuesday night, tallied the first goal of the match when freshman Justin Kahle (Oceanport, N.J.) drove a corner kick to the near post and sophomore Timothy Ritter (Weston, Mass.) headed in his second goal of the season at the 32:53 mark. Less than two minutes later, Ritter setup PC's second goal as his header from 10 yards out was saved by Georgetown junior goalkeeper Joe Devine (Exton, Pa.), but the rebound found the head of senior tri-captain Joseph Weill (Merrick, N.Y.) who tucked the ball into the open net at 34:37 for his second tally of the season.

In the second half, the Friars created more scoring opportunities, including junior Ryan Maduro's (Bristol, R.I.) shot from 20 yards out that went off the right post in the 56th minute. However, in the 71st minute, the post would not deny Maduro as he scored a brilliant goal. Maduro gained possession of the ball at the top of the 18-yard box and ripped a dipping volley that glanced off the left post and into the net marking his second goal of the season. PC added to its lead in the 73rd minute. Senior goalkeeper Chris Konopka (Tom River, N.J.) drove a 75-yard drop kick to junior Hadrien Toure (Lyon, France), who played the ball past Devine and freshman forward Jonathan Medcalf (Tulsa, Okla.) was there to put the ball into the open net. It marked Medcalf's team-leading fifth goal of the season. He has scored one goal in each of the last three contests, including two match winners.

The four goals marks the most by a Friar team in a conference match since 2002 when PC scored four times in a win at Pittsburgh. PC held a 23-7 shot advantage as Devine made 10 saves. Konopka stopped four shots and recorded his fourth shutout of the season.

Providence is back in action on Tuesday, October 3 with a BIG EAST home match against UConn at 3:00 p.m. The match will be televised locally on Cox Sports Television via tape delay at 8:00 p.m.
