Providence got off to a hot start winning games one and two behind solid play from its offense registering a hitting percentage of .333. Juniors Elizabeth Flynn (Bellerose, N.Y.) and Jeanette Toney (Brooklyn, N.Y.) both tallied double-figure kills after the first two games with 11 and 10, respectively. Flynn finished the match with a team-high 20 kills and an impressive hitting percentage of .556.

The Rams came out of the locker-room after the second intermission on fire winning games three and four in convincing fashion. Freshmen Amy Mellard (Overland, Park, Kan.) and Lauren McIntosh (Colorado Springs, Colo,) each had five kills to help lead the Rams to the game three victory.

After the conclusion of game four the Rams had five players with double-figure kills including sophomore Caitlin Welsh (Narragansett, R.I.) with a match-high 14 kills. Welsh finished the match with a match-high 21 kills and added 15 digs. Senior Kaira Kachadurian (Fresno, Calif.) finished with a double-double with a match-high 72 assists and 20 digs.

In game five, both teams battled to the end each exchanging long runs. After trailing 8-3, the Rams went on an impressive 11-2 run to take a 14-10 lead. Providence rallied back with two straight points to make the score 14-12. URI freshman Kayla Newberg (Deer Park, Wash.) finished the match with a laser of a kill. Newberg finished with 15 kills.

Junior Kelly Krahenbuhl (Larkspur, Colo.) finished with a match-high 26 digs. Junior setter Sara Sheehan (West Chester, Pa.) tallied 50 assists.

Head Coach Margot Royer: "We played with great emotion in the first two games and let games three and four slip away. It was tough for us to come back in game five emotionally after the third and fourth game. Our back row played great defense, especially Kasey Adinolfi (Branford, Conn.) and Krahenbuhl to keep us in it."

The Friars will return to action with a home match on Saturday, October 20 when they will host Saint Francis on PC Senior Day.
