PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The BIG EAST Conference announced today that Providence College men's soccer junior Timothy Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, while freshman Alex Redding (Newton, Mass.) was tabbed as Rookie of the Week.
Murray and Redding played key roles as the Friars posted two road wins last week. On Tuesday, October 16, Murray made four saves, while Redding scored the lone goal of the match to lead the Friars to a 1-0 victory at No. 13/9 Boston College. The Friars recorded their first win over a ranked team this season and the first over Boston College since 1999. It also marked Murray's sixth shutout of the season and Redding's second goal of his rookie campaign.
The duo also helped Providence to a 2-0 win at Pittsburgh on Sunday, October 21. Murray made two saves as he posted his seventh shutout, while Redding assisted on the game-winning goal late in the first half to propel the Friars to their third consecutive triumph. Murray and the Friars have not yielded a goal in 274:47.
Providence (8-5-1, 4-3-1 BIG EAST) is back in action with a home match against BIG EAST foe Seton Hall on Wednesday, October 24 beginning at 3:00 p.m.
