Men's Soccer Defeated At No. 10 USF, 3-1

TAMPA, Fla. - The Providence College men's soccer team was dealt a 3-1 loss at the hands of 10th-ranked USF Sunday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference match in Tampa, Fla. The Bulls scored twice in the first 12:18 en route to the win. The Friars fell to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the BIG EAST, while the Bulls improved to 6-1 and 1-1 in the league.

Frianci Aristeguieta gave the Bulls a 1-0 lead in the second minute when he scored an assisted goal marking his first of the season. In the 13th minute, USF capitalized on a set piece as Bernardo Anor headed in his fourth goal of the season off a pass from Joris Claessens.

Providence pulled to within 2-1 in the 49th minute, also benefitting from a free kick. Sophomore Justin Kahle (Oceanport, N.J.) drove a free kick from the left side and classmate Jonathan Medcalf (Tulsa, Okla.) was able to get on the end of it and score his team-leading fourth goal of the season. The Friars created more chances early in the second half and outshot the Bulls, 8-7, after the halftime whistle, but could not score the equalizer. Jordan Seabrook sealed the win in the 90th minute with his fourth goal of the seaon.

Providence's Timothy Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) finished with three saves, while Diego Restrepo had two stops.

The Friars are back in action on Friday, September 28 with a 3:00 p.m. home match against Syracuse.
