The Providence College swimming & diving teams traveled to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday, February 2 where they matched up against Holy Cross. Despite another strong showing from freshman Courtney Larcom (Morristown, N.J.), the Friar women fell, 145-97. Larcom led the Friars with two first-place finishes on the day, capturing the 1000-yard freestyle (11:19.85) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.85). Senior Danielle Matook (Seekonk, Mass.) and junior Blair Flynn (Middletown, R.I.) each won one event on the day. Matook took first place in the 200-yard IM (2:17.39) while Flynn captured the 50-yard freestyle (25.68).
In one of their closest meets of the year, the men's swimming & diving squad fell, 127-112. Keeping things close for the Friars was the diving combination of freshmen James Cebulski (Trumbull, Conn.) and Jordan Emerick (Southington, Conn.). The freshman duo combined to capture both men's diving events on the day. In the first event, Cebulski placed first with a score of 190.73 while Emerick took third place with 155.62 points. In the second event, Emerick placed first with a score of 124.50 while Cebulski took second with 122.26.
The Friars return to action on Saturday, February 9 when they travel to Kingston, R.I. for the New England Invitational. The meet is scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. start.
