Providence Track Sweeps Competition At Yale University

NEW HAVEN, CONN. - The Providence College Men's and Women's Track & Field teams competed in a dual meet featuring Iona, Quinnipiac, and Stony Brook. The meet was hosted at Yale University under great weather conditions.

The Friar men and women each swept the competition with three team victories on the day. The women defeated Iona 61-34, Quinnipiac 60-42, and Stony Brook 55-30, while the men beat Iona 74-45, Quinnipiac 84-30, and Stony Brook 74-53.

The women recorded four first place finishers in the individual events. Junior Katherine Schock (Norwood, Mass.) won the 800m in a time of 2:16.39 and sophomore Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine) won the mile in a time of 4:57.78. Junior Danette Doetzel won the 3000m in a time of 9:38.94 and sophomore Caitlin Lawrence (Franklin, Mass.) won the high jump with a mark of 1.55m (5-01).

Also taking first was the 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay. The 4x100m team consisted of freshman Toni Rauseo (Kensington, Conn.), freshman Nora Fazioli (Troy, N.Y.), Lawrence, and freshman Julie Wolf (Holden, Mass.) and the 4x400m team consisted of Schock (62.32), Lawrence (61.37), Samantha Stadt (61.48) and freshman Julie Wolf (Holden, Mass.) (63.26).

On the men's side of competition, the Friars recorded five first place finishers in the individual events. With junior Charles Dewey (Worcester, Mass.) winning the 400m in 49.10 seconds and senior Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) winning the 800m in a time of 1:55.59.

Junior Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) won the 3000m with a time of 8:30.59 and freshman Phillip Connaughton (Broken Arrow, Okla.) won the long jump with a height of 5.98m (19-07 ½). Stephen Justus registered the final first place finish in the javelin throw with a mark of 51.96m (170-06).

In the relays, the Providence College squad won the 4x100m in 45.06 with a team of Lewin Richards, Teto Moulton, Chris Gubata, and Isaiah Davis. In the 4x400m, the PC squad set a new school record of 3:19.58 with Brian Stannard (49.96), Alan Pandiani (51.90), James Lourenco (48.88), and Charlie Dewey (48.84).

Up next for the Friars will be the Mt Sac Relays, in Walnut California on April 17th and 18th. Max Smith and Hayden McLaren will be competing in the 1500m. Danette Doetzel, Katie DiCamillo, Krystal Douglas, Michelle Childs, Breffini Twohig will be competing the 5000m. The rest of the PC team will be competing at the UCONN invitational on April 19th.
