STORRS, Conn. - The Providence College men's basketball team (14-7, 6-3) fell to #2 Connecticut (20-1, 9-1) by a score of 94-61 on Saturday, January 31 at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn. Senior Randall Hanke (New York, N.Y.) led PC with 16 points and added four rebounds and two blocked shots.

The Friars led 7-6 at the 16 minute mark of the first half and took a 14-12 lead on a 3-pointer by sophomore Marshon Brooks (Stone Mountain, Ga.).

UConn gained the lead, 20-16, on a floater by Stanley Robinson and led 23-18 after a trey by A.J. Price.

A streaking lay-in by senior Jeff Xavier (Pawtucket, R.I.) moved the Friars within three at 28-25 and Hanke finished strong under the basket to put the score at 34-32 Huskies with two minutes to play in the first half. UConn entered intermission with a 38-34 advantage.

Senior Jonathan Kale (Mattapan, Mass.) paced Providence with 10 first-half points. The Friars held UConn to 25.0 percent (2-8) shooting from 3-point range in the stanza.

Connecticut opened the second half on an 11-0 run to take a 49-34 lead four minutes into the stanza. A trey by junior Brian McKenzie (Brooklyn, N.Y.) cut the Huskies lead to 51-40 but UConn built its advantage up to 18 at 62-44 with 10 minutes remaining in the game. The Huskies moved their lead to 31 (82-51) at the 5:20 mark and Providence could not cut into the advantage for the remainder of the game.

The Friars shot 33.3 percent (25-75) from the field and were victimized by a 35.3 percent (6-17) performance from the free-throw stripe. PC outscored the Huskies bench, 29-20. Hasheem Thabeet posted a triple-double for Connecticut with 15 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks.
