Men's Soccer To Play West Virginia on Wednesday Night

PROVIDENCE TO FACE WEST VIRGINIA... The Providence College men's soccer team will look to climb to within three points of fourth place in the BIG EAST Blue Division when it travels to battle the West Virginia Mountaineers in Morgantown, W. Va. on Wednesday, October 28.

PROVIDENCE QUICK NOTES • The Friars are seeking their second BIG EAST road victory. Providence is 1-3 in four BIG EAST road games ... Providence's 3-0 victory over Pittsburgh on October 3 marked the best offensive output for the Friars this season ... Providence ended a five-game winless streak with a 1-0 victory over Marquette on Saturday, October 24 ... Junior Matt Marcin (Wilmington, Del.) has scored two of the Friars' three game-winning goals in BIG EAST Conference matches ... He ranks tied for second in the Conference with the two match winners ... The Friars have posted a 4-2-3 record at home this season, while allowing just five goals in nine home matches.

SERIES HISTORY VERSUS WEST VIRGINIA... In 13 all-time meetings between Providence and West Virginia, the Mountaineers lead, 8-5. Last season, the Friars posted a 1-0 victory over the Mountaineers as Chris Stoker (Holden, Mass.) scored his first collegiate goal and A.J. Brown (Fort Myers, Fla.) recorded his first collegiate assist. Prior to that win, the Friars had not defeated the Mountaineers since 2003. That season also was the last time that the Friars defeated West Virginia in Morgantown.

SCOUTING WEST VIRGINIA... West Virginia is coming off a 2-1 loss against Georgetown on Saturday, October 24 in Morgantown. The Mountaineers took the lead in the 25th minute on a goal by Uwem Etuk, but the Hoyas scored two late second half goals to record the win. Prior to that game, West Virginia played No. 25 Ohio State to a scoreless draw on October 21 in Columbus, Ohio. Alex Silva leads the team in scoring with three goals and one assist for seven points, while Abel Sebele is second with one goal and five assists. In goal, Zach Johnson has started all 15 matches for the Mountaineers and has posted a 0.54 goals against average and nine shutouts.

LAST TIME OUT... Providence posted a 1-0 victory over Marquette on Saturday, October 24 in Providence. Junior Matt Marcin scored the lone goal of the match in the 55th minute to lead the Friars. Senior Daniel Fabian (Southbury, Mass.) assisted on the goal and goalkeeper Tim Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) made three saves to earn the shutout as Providence improved to 4-0 all-time against Marquette.

FRIARS ON THE ROAD... The Friars, who will close out the regular season with two road matches, have posted a 2-4 record on the road this season, including a 1-3 mark in BIG EAST Conference games away from home. The Friars opened the regular season with a 1-0 double overtime victory at Sacred Heart. Providence then was defeated in its next three road matches, including a 3-0 loss at No. 14 Boston University on September 7. PC captured its first BIG EAST road win on October 3 with a 3-0 triumph at Pittsburgh, but was then defeated at No. 13 UConn, 4-0, on October 6.

WORKING OVERTIME... The Friars have played in six double overtime matches this season, including three of the last four contests. Providence has posted a 1-2-3 record in overtime games, including a scoreless double overtime tie against No. 18 St. John's on September 27. Last season, the Friars recorded a 0-2-3 mark in five overtime matches.

RITTER MOVING UP THE PROVIDENCE SCORING CHART... Senior Tim Ritter (Weston, Mass.) has 17 goals and 14 assists for 49 career points at Providence College. The 49 points ranks ninth all-time at Providence behind former Friar All-American Ryan Maduro '09 who finished his career with 50 points (14 goals, 22 assists). This season, Ritter is tied for the team lead with three goals and is second with six points.

MURRAY RACKING UP THE SHUTOUTS... Providence goalkeeper Tim Murray (Haverhill, Mass.) has recorded seven shutouts in 15 games this season. He has allowed 14 goals in 15 games this season and has a 0.95 goals against average. The seven clean sheets rank him fourth in the BIG EAST, two behind West Virginia's Zach Johnson, who is third. In addition, Murray has 25 career shutouts, which is a Providence College record.

PROVIDENCE AGAINST RANKED TEAMS... Providence has posted a 0-3-1 record against ranked teams this season. On September 7, the Friars were defeated at No. 24 Boston University, 3-0. The Friars also tied No. 18 St. John's on September 27. In addition, PC has played No. 13 UConn and No. 11 Harvard. Last season, the Friars posted a 3-5 record against ranked teams, including a 1-0 victory against fourth-ranked Boston College.

BIG EAST WEEKLY HONORS... Three Friars have earned BIG EAST weekly honors this season. On September 7, Tim Ritter was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Tim Murray was named to the honor roll. Murray also was named to the honor roll on September 28. Most recently, Fabian was named to the honor roll on October 5.
