PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams were defeated by Lehigh last night at PC's Taylor Natatorium. The men lost 138-81, while the women dropped their decision, 139-80.

The Mountain Hawks earned big scores, thanks in large part to winning 16 out of the 18 individual events contested. The Friars, however, earned victories in the women's and men's 100 breaststroke. Freshman Morgan Lee (Vernon, Conn.) earned her first career individual collegiate win in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:21.50, while freshman Andy St. Pierre (Fairhaven, Mass.) did the same on the men's side with a time of 1:10.42.

In a bright spot for the Friars, sophomore swimmer Eric Burtchell (Pawtucket, R.I.) broke the 1500 freestyle school record with a time of 17:23.36. The previous record was set just last year by Tim Reilly ('10) (17:43.20). Before that, the 1500 record stood for almost a decade.

In the 1m diving event, sophomores Amie Fracker (Trumbull, Conn.) and Allie Black (Mystic, Conn.) finished one-two with scores of 227.40 and 215.47, respectively. The tandem's scores were more than 30 points higher than the third place finisher from Lehigh. On the men's side, sophomore Ben Kardian (Valhalla, N.Y.) posted an impressive score of 272.85 to take the 1m diving event. With their scores, Fracker and Kardian successfully qualify for the BIG EAST Championships in February.

The Friars are back in the pool next Saturday on October 23, when they compete in the Husky Invitational in Storrs, Conn. The meet is an all day event.
