PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College men's (1-5, 0-1 BIG EAST) and women's (0-6, 0-1 BIG EAST) swimming and diving teams hosted its first tri-meet of the season against intrastate foes, Bryant and Brown, on Friday and Saturday. The women fell to both Bryant (133-86) and Brown (174-48). The men came up short against Brown, but squeaked by Bryant by one point, 110.5-109.5. The women's meet was held on Friday, while the men competed the following day.
On Friday, the Friar women were once again dominant in the 1m diving event. Sophomores Allie Black (Mystic, Conn.) and Amie Fracker (Trumbull, Conn.) finished one-two, respectively. Fracker edged out Brown's veteran diver, Kara Lindquist, by less than two-tenths of a point to take the runner-up position.
On Saturday, the men's squad got all that they could handle from the Bryant Bulldogs. The Friars beat Bryant, but the Bulldogs made it interesting throughout. In the final event of the day, the 200m freestyle relay, freshman Connor Lui (Monroe, Conn.), sophomore Marc Freda (Lincroft, N.J.), junior Matt Green (Westfield, N.J.) and senior Brian Silva (Seekonk, Mass.) finished less than three seconds in front of Bryant's third-place squad to ensure the victory for the Friars.
Both the Brown men and women's teams are now 2-0 on the year. The Bryant men fall to 1-5, while their women are 2-6.
The Friars are back in action on Wednesday, November 17, when they host Rhode Island in their first annual PINK OUT game. The meet is set for 6:00 p.m.
