PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College junior goaltender Alex Beaudry (Cumberland, Ontario) was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, December 13. It marks the fifth time in his career that Beaudry has earned the league defensive player of the week honors, including twice this season. In addition, freshman Derek Army (North Kingstown, R.I.), junior Andy Balysky (Randolph, N.J.) and senior Jordan Kremyr (Cloverdale, B.C.) were named to the Hockey East Weekly Top Performers.
Beaudry led the Friars to a 1-0-1 record last week. He totalled 64 stops, including a 33-save performance in a 5-2 victory over Quinnipiac on Saturday, December 11. Beaudry also recorded his first career assist in the victory over Quinnipiac.
Army scored a power-play goal in a 4-4 tie at Brown on Tuesday, December 7 in the 25th Annual Mayor's Cup. He also had a power-play goal and one assist in a 5-2 win over Quinnipiac. Balysky scored a goal in each game last week for his first two goals this season. Kremyr also had a goal in each game last week. Against Quinnipiac on Saturday, Kremyr recorded one goal and one assist.
The Friars return to action on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. when they play an exhibition game at the University of New Brunswick in New Brunswick, Canada.
