BROOKLINE, Mass. - Senior Matt Marcin (Wilmington, Del.) scored early and red-shirt junior Jhojan Obando (Kissimmee, Fla.) made a career-high 10 saves as the Providence College men's soccer team defeated Northeastern, 1-0, Tuesday night at Parsons Field in Brookline, Mass. It marked the Friars' third consecutive victory as they improved to 4-1-1. Northeastern fell to 2-4.
Marcin's goal came just 3:18 into the match as he scored on a shot from the top of the 18-yard box. It marked Marcin's first goal of the season as sophomore Wilder Arboleda (Pawtucket, R.I.) collected his first assist.
The Huskies outshot the Friars, 18-9, but Obando thwarted all 10 of Northeastern's attempts on goal to record his third shutout of the season, including his second consecutive clean sheet.
The Friars are back in action on Saturday, September 25 at 2:00 p.m. when they host No. 8/10 Louisville in the BIG EAST Conference opener at Glay Field.
