STORRS, CONN. - On Saturday, Oct. 27 the Providence College men's soccer team travelled to Storrs, Conn. to take on No. 3 Connecticut. Headed into Saturday's match, the Friars needed atleast a tie to guarentee them a spot in the 2012 BIG EAST tournament. After defeating the Huskies on Wednesday, Oct.24, 1-0, the Friars fell to the Huskies on Saturday, 2-0. The Friars finished their 2012 campaign with a record of 4-10-2 (2-6-0 BIG EAST) while Huskies finished with a record of 14-2-1 (6-2-0 BIG EAST).
Connecticut struck in the 26th minute when Connecticut was awarded a penalty kick. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Keasel Broome(Claymont, Del.) notched a huge save off of Carlos Alvarez's strike. The rebound deflection from Broome's save landed at Alvarez's feet who burried the ball to the back of the net to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
The remainder of the first half was scoreless and Providence trailed Connecticut, 1-0 at the half.
In the 57th minute, Mamadou Diouf increased the Huskies' lead to 2-0 when he placed his strike into the top left corner of the Providence goal. Sean Weir and Colin Bradley were awarded assists on the play.
Connecticut outshot Providence, 10-7, but the Friars held the advantage in corners, 5-4. Broome finished the game with four saves.
