The Providence College women's ice hockey team will travel to Orono, Maine to take on Hockey East foe, University of Maine on Friday, Nov. 2 at 2:00 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1:00 p.m. The Friars hold an all-time series record of 33-3-9 against the Black Bears and are coming off a 1-0-1 weekend against St. Cloud State.
Last week the Friars tied and defeated St. Cloud State in a two-game home series, 2-2 and 4-2. After going down 2-0 the Friars tied the Huskies on Saturday, Oct. 27 with just 19.2 seconds left in the third period. Sophomore Beth Hanrahan (Poolesville, Md.) and junior Corinne Buie (Edina, Minn.) tallied a goal apiece in the match-up. Sunday, led by senior Nicole Anderson (Jordan, Minn.), the Friars dominated at both ends of the ice. Anderson tallied a four point game with her second career hat trick and second game-winning goal of the season. Freshman Sarah Bryant (Bethleham, Pa.) finished the weekend with 40 saves on 44 shots.
The Black Bears enter the weekend with a 1-5-0 overall record and a 1-3-0 Hockey East record. Maine has been outscored 23-10 in its six games and outshot 201-144. Leading the team in scoring is senior Brittany Dougherty with seven points on two goals and five assists. The Black Bears last faced No. 7 Northeastern and No. 3 Boston University falling 3-0 and 4-2, respectively.
The last time the Friars faced off against the Black Bears was Feb. 25, 2012 when the Friars took on the Black Bears in the Hockey East quarterfinal game. The Friars came out of the match-up with a 6-0 win. The Friars are 12-3-6 against the Black Bears in Orono, Maine and has outscored Maine, 159-72, in its all time series.
