NEW YORK, N.Y. - Former Providence College distance standout Kim Smith '05 continues to tune-up for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London with strong performances. Sunday, Smith placed second in the New York Half Marathon.

Smith led the majority of the race, eventually crossing in 1:08:43, just eight seconds behind the winner, Ethiopia's Firehiwot Dado (1:08:35).

The race can be seen online and can be found via www.flotrack.org.

Prior to Sunday's finish, the New Zealand native had won a remarkable six half-marathons in a row, even running the fastest time on American soil last year at the Rock `n' Roll Philadelphia Half when she crossed in 1:07.11.

Smith is expected to be one of the favorites in the marathon in London. The Olympic women's marathon is scheduled for August 5.
