PHILADELPHIA, PENN. - The Providence College track and field programs earned two victories at the 118th Penn Relays at Franklin Field Thursday night, with seniors Charlotte Ffrench O'Carroll (Dublin, Ireland) and Hannah Davidson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) each earning first-place finishes at the famed event.

Davidson joined teammate Shelby Greany (Suffern, N.Y.) in conquering the top of the collegiate 3000-meter steeplechase championship field. Davidson crossed the line with 10:13.07 on the clock, 1.2 seconds ahead of the second place competitor, Penn State's Natalie Bower (10:14.27). Greany followed close behind in third, posting a 10:21.91.

Both Friars shattered the BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying standards with their performances.

Ffrench O'Carroll was brilliant in the collegiate women's 3000-meters, besting a packed field of 24 runners. Her winning time of 9:20.72 was over five seconds better than the next closest competitor, Cornell's Emily Shearer (9:25.95).

The time eclipses O'Carroll's previous personal best at the distance (9:29.58) and, like her fellow Friars, the senior easily surpassed the ECAC qualifying mark.

One member of the Friar men's program took the oval Thursday. Sophomore Jon Hopkins (Bridgend, Wales) is taking part in the collegiate men's 10,000-meters.

Providence will next compete at the Brown Springtime Open in Providence this Sunday, April 29.
