Final Stats

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's soccer team battled Boston University to a 1-1 draw on Friday, September 7 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I. Wilder Arboleda (Pawtucket, R.I.) tallied the game-tying goal in the 58th minute to force overtime. Providence's record moves to 1-3-1 on the season, while Boston University also moves to 1-3-1.

Boston University took a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute of play as Anthony Ciccone converted a strike from 18-yards out, and buried it in the upper right hand corner of the net. The goal came on the Terrier's first shot of the game. At halftime, the score remained, 1-0, in favor of Boston University. In the opening 45 minutes, the Terriers held the advantage in shots, 6-4, and corner kicks, 3-2.

The Friars evened the score, 1-1, in the 65th minute after applying a great deal of offensive pressure. Wilder Arboleda (Pawtucket, R.I.) connected on a beautiful header off a feed from Rishi Desai (Holmdel, N.J.). Desai's service into the box came from nearly 40-yards out on the right side of the field as Arboleda sliced through the defense.

Upon completion of regulation, the two teams were deadlocked, 1-1. Providence was much more aggressive offensively in the second half of play and after 90 minutes of action the Friars held a 12-11 advantage in shots. The Terriers held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Despite a corner kick for BU early on in the first overtime session, the Friars were on the offensive for the majority of play. Providence rattled off three corner kicks, but it was unable to convert a goal. In the second overtime session, each team recorded one shot and the game ended in a draw.

Keasel Broome (Claymont, Del.) finished the game for Providence with three saves. Nick Thomson recorded five saves for the Terriers.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, September 9 at Noon against Michigan State. The game will be played at Glay Field in Providence, R.I.
