POTSDAM, N.Y. - The Providence College women's ice hockey team was defeated by seventh-ranked Clarkson on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Cheel Arena in Potsdam, N.Y. The loss moves the Friars overall record to 4-10-0 on the season and 3-5-1 all-time against Clarkson.

The Knights notched their first of the game with a goal from Christine Lambert with under a minute to play in the first period. Jennifer Shields fired a puck from the point that Lambert deflected past Friar sophomore goaltender Sarah Bryant (Bethlehem, Pa.) for her third goal of the season at 19:25 of the period. Brittany Styner also earned an assist on the play.

Bryant made eight saves during the period, including a breakaway save midway during the first twenty minutes of play. Bryant also came up big when the Friars were down a player on the penalty kill, with a stop on a point blank shot from a Knight forward in the slot.

After the second period of play, the Knights took a strong three goal lead with goals from Lambert and Jamie Lee Rattray. Lambert put the Knights ahead 2-0 after a one-timer from the slot at 7:05 of the period. Lambert was assisted on the play by Vanessa Plante.

Rattray extended Clarkson's lead to 3-0 with a breakaway goal at 12:33 of the second period. Rattray came flying down the ice on Bryant taking a shot Bryant was able to contain but was pushed past the goal line with Rattray's speed.

After two periods of play, the Knights led the Friars in shots, 18-14 and face-offs, 22-19.

The Friars took back-to-back penalties during the third period, Providence successfully killed off the first penalty but could not contain the Knights pressure as they tallied their fourth of the game at 11:02 of the period. Lambert notched her third goal of the game with shot from in front of the Friar cage.

The Friars were outshot by the Knights, 32-15, but were even in face-offs, 28-28, in the loss.

Providence is back in action with back-to-back home games against Hockey East foe Maine. The series will begin on Saturday, Nov. 23 and conclude on Sunday, Nov. 24 at Schneider Arena. Both games are set for 2:00 p.m. puck drops.
