The Providence College men's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie with Xavier in its first BIG EAST Conference game at the Ray Treacy Track and Field Complex on Oct. 4. With the tie, Providence moves to 5-2-1 (0-0-1 BIG EAST) on the season, while Xavier moves to 6-3-1 (1-0-1 BIG EAST).
The Friars looked strong in the first half of the game, holding an advantage in shots, 7-1, and corner kicks, 3-1. Sophomore Julian Gressel (Neustadt an der Aisch, Germany) had two promising shots at 16:13 and 18:01, both of which were saved by the Musketeers' goalkeeper.
Red-shirt senior goalkeeper Keasel Broome (Claymont, Del.) made two saves in the Friar net, while his counterpart in the Xavier goal, Eric Osswald, made six saves. It marked Broome's third shutout of the season and 10th of his Friar career.
After 110 minutes of play, Providence held the advantage in shots (11-8), shots on goal (6-2) and corner kicks (4-3).
The Friars are back in action for another BIG EAST home match at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11 when they play Villanova.
