Providence College men's hockey junior forward Trevor Mingoia (Fairport, N.Y.) was named the Hockey East Warrior Player of the Week (Nov. 17) following a three point weekend in the Friars' series split with the Catamounts.
On Friday night against Vermont (Nov. 14), Mingoia paced the Friar offense with a pair of assists on Providence's first two goals of the game. Providence went on to win 3-0, handing tenth-ranked Vermont its first shutout of the season. The following night, Mingoia netted a power-play goal as Vermont edged Providence, 2-1.
In addition, junior goaltender Jon Gillies (South Portland, Maine) was named the Hockey East Honor Roll. On Friday, Nov. 14, Gillies made 27 saves as the Friars blanked the tenth-ranked Catamounts, 3-0 at Schneider Arena, marking the first time Vermont was shutout this season. Then on Saturday, Gillies stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced in Providence's 2-1 loss. For the weekend, Gillies turned in a 1.01 goals-against average and a .966 save percentage. The shutout was the 10th of Gillies' career, extending his Providence College record.
With an assist in each game, freshman defenseman Jake Walman (Toronto, Ontario) was also named to the weekly honor roll.
The Friars are back in action this weekend with a road Hockey East series at New Hampshire. Game one will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21 at the Whittemore Center and will be televised on WBIN and Fox College Sports. Game two will be played at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22.
