KINGSTON, R.I. - The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the Harold Anderson Invitational hosted by the University of Rhode Island on Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22. The women's team took fifth place with 382 points, while the men's team finished fourth, scoring 646 points.
The women's team was led by freshman Kendall Jerzyk (Madison, Conn.) who took first place in the 1m diving event with 204.95 points. Freshman Katherine Fallon (Warren, N.J.) earned third place in the 1000y freestyle (10:40.08) and fourth place in the 500y freestyle (5:05.63). Senior Leia Federiconi (Williamsville, N.Y.) took fifth in the 100y breaststroke (1:07.71).
On the men's side, sophomore Zachary Begnaud (Natchitoches, La.) earned first in the 1000y freestyle (10:12.53), first in the 1650y freestyle (16:54.42), and third in the 500y freestyle (4:56.28). Senior James Butler (Medfield, Mass.) earned second place in the 200y freestyle (1:46.40). In the 100y freestyle, senior Justin Tse (Framingham, Mass.) took third place (48.85), sophomore Jonathan Mariner (Marion, Mass) took fourth (48.93), and Butler took fifth (49.17). Tse placed second in the 500y freestyle with a time of 4:51.08. Senior John Fatigati (Mahwah, N.J.) placed fourth in the 100y butterfly (53.24) and fifth in the 200y backstroke (2:00.36). Freshman Connor Fabian (LaGrange Park, Ill.) took fourth place in the 200y breaststroke (2:15.44). Sixteen additional Friars qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament, currently making it a total of 45 qualifiers.

The Harold Anderson Invitational marks the last event for the Friars in the 2014 calendar year. The Friars will return to the pool when the men's team hosts the Villanova Wildcats on Saturday, Jan. 17 at noon.
