KANSAS, Mo. -

It was announced on Friday, Dec. 12 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) that Providence College men's soccer senior midfielder Phil Towler (Cumbria, England) was named to the NSCAA/Continental Tire Div. I All-America Third Team.

Towler is the first Friar to earn All-American honors since Ryan Maduro '09 (First Team) in 2006. In the history of the program, only three members of the men's soccer team have earned All-American honors: Ryan Maduro (2006), Seamus Purcell (1987 and 1988) and Martin Hayes (1983 and 1984).

This season, Towler has been the anchor of the Friar midfield and co-captained the team to Providence's first ever BIG EAST Conference Tournament Championship and to the program's first College Cup appearance in program history. He also has registered one goal and two assists for four points this season.

In addition, Towler was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team (Nov. 11) and to the NSCAA Great Lakes All-Region First Team (Dec. 10).

In his career at Providence, Towler has tallied three goals and four assists for 10 points.

The England native was one of six BIG EAST players to earn All-America honors.

Towler and the Friars are back in action tonight (Dec. 12) to continue their historic run at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. for the College Cup semifinal against UCLA. Kick-off is set for 7:30 p.m. and ESPNU will be providing live coverage of the game.
