PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College men's soccer senior forward Fabio Machado (Santa Catarina, Brazil) has been invited to the 2015 adidas MLS (Major League Soccer) Player Combine, which will be held from Jan. 8-13 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Machado was one of 55 seniors selected to the initial list of combine invitees. The coaching staffs from all 20 MLS teams will be on hand to scout talent for the 2015 MLS SuperDraft, scheduled to take place on Thursday, Jan. 15, in Philadelphia.
Machado helped the Friars to an historic 2014 season that included winning the program's first BIG EAST Tournament title, a single-season record 16 wins, a first-ever appearance in the NCAA College Cup and a final ranking of No. 3 in the country, the highest ranking in program history.
A 2015 Second Team All-BIG EAST selection, Machado finished the 2014 season with six goals and a team-high eight assists for 20 points. Five of his six goals proved to be game winners. His superb second half strike at Michigan State in the NCAA quarterfinals proved to be the difference as Providence defeated the Spartans 3-2 to advance to the College Cup.
The 55 seniors were selected by a committee consisting of NCAA Division I coaches from every conference and MLS representatives. They will be joined at the adidas MLS Player Combine by other seniors, including those from lower NCAA divisions, underclassmen who sign Generation adidas contracts and other international invitees, all of whom will be announced at a later date.
