PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's ice hockey freshman forward Christina Putigna (Grimsby, Ontario) was named Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, in an announcement made by the league on Monday, Nov. 30. Senior defender Lexi Romanchuk (San Jose, Calif.) and junior forward Cassidy Carels (Bruxelles, Manitoba) were named Hockey East Top Performers.
The weekly award is Putigna's second consecutive week being named Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week. Putigna registered an assist in the Friars game at Boston College on Nov. 25 and continued her point streak with three points in the Friars 6-1 win over Brown. The freshman notched a power play goal and two assists in the Nov. 28 game, to extend her point streak to seven games. Putigna has notched 13 points in the Friars' seven November games.
Carels registered five points in Providence's two games. The junior scored the Friars' lone goal, a power play goal, against BC. Carels tied a career-high with a four point game against Brown, with two goals and two assists. This is the first weekly honor Carels has received this season.
Romanchuk also tied a career high, with three points against Brown. The senior captain started off the scoring against Brown with a power play goal and added two assists in the game. The goal marks Romanchuk's first of the 2015-16 season.
