PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The 22nd-ranked Providence College men's soccer team earned an at-large selection to the 2016 NCAA Tournament. The Friars will host Delaware in the NCAA First Round on Thursday, Nov. 17 at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
The Friars are making their ninth appearance all-time in the NCAA Tournament, and third under the direction of fifth-year Head Coach Craig Stewart. The Friars' most notable run in the NCAA's came during the 2014 campaign, when the squad advanced to the College Cup Semifinal. Providence is 6-6-1 all-time in NCAA Tournament play, including a 3-2-1 mark with Stewart at the helm.
Providence enters the NCAA Tournament with a 12-6 overall record. The Friars captured their first-ever BIG EAST Regular-Season title after compiling a 7-2 mark in conference action. The team recently fell to then-ranked No. 24 Creighton in the BIG EAST semifinals, 2-1, on Nov. 10 in Providence, R.I.
Thursday's match between Providence and Delaware will mark the first meeting all-time between the two programs. The Blue Hens enter tournament play with a 12-7-1 overall record and recently claimed the Colonial Athletic Association Championship with a 2-1 victory over William & Mary on Nov. 13.
