PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's soccer senior captain Julian Gressel (Neustadt an der Aisch, Germany) has been named a 2016 MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist. The announcement was made by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) today [Nov. 29]. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and is awarded to the most outstanding intercollegiate performer.
Gressel currently owns 36 points on 15 goals and six assists. He has been named the 2016 BIG EAST Co-Offensive Player of the Year, a unanimous All-BIG EAST First-Team selection, and three-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week.
Overall, Gressel is a three-time All-BIG EAST selection (First Team, 2016; Second Team, 2014 & 2015). He also has earned BIG EAST All-Tournament Team recognition each of the last three seasons (2013-15).
Gressel has played 81 career games for the Friars and owns 83 career points on 29 goals and 25 assists. He ranks second all-time at Providence in points (83), second all-time in assists (25) and second all-time in goals (29).
On Dec. 14, the three finalists will be announced for the 2016 MAC Hermann Trophy.
Providence is back in action on Dec. 2 at North Carolina at 7:00 p.m. for the NCAA Quarterfinals.
