PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

Brian Kennedy (Upland, Calif.) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Kennedy's honor comes following a 2-0 week for the Friars. On Wednesday (Oct. 11) the Friars defeated cross-town rival Brown, 2-1, in overtime. Kennedy tallied his first career assist on Providence's first goal. On Saturday (Oct. 14) the Friars topped Seton Hall, 3-1, in a crucial BIG EAST matchup.

Kennedy started both games on the backline for the Friars last week. The redshirt senior has started the last four consecutive games, totaling 312 minutes at right back. As part of the defensive unit, he helped hold opponents to only 15 shot attempts and two goals last week.

In addition to Kennedy, Joao Serrano (Evora, Portugal) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll. The redshirt sophomore scored a highlight reel goal in overtime to lead the Friars over Brown. Against Seton Hall, he picked up two assists. On the week, the midfielder tallied four points, pushing his season total to eight.
