Villanova, Pa. -
The Providence College Men's Swimming and Diving team travelled to Villanova, Pa. today (Jan. 13) to take on the Villanova Wildcats. The Wildcats came out on top with a final score of 135-66 in the Friars first meet in nearly two months.
While some familiar point leaders contributed in the Friars effort, the team had trouble getting on top of the leaderboard. Junior, Ryan Trammel's performance in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.03) gave the Friars nine points and their only individual victory of the day.
Jerod Magazine finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:11.73), and third in the 500-yard freestyle (4:52.73). Patrick Brannigan finished fourth in both the 50-yard freestyle (22.22) and the 100-yard freestyle (49.18). Sebastian Melendez also added a couple of fourth place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.42) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.07).
The Friars found most of their success in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Melendez and Brannigan teamed up with Andrew Ferrell and Charlie Sabaitis to bring home first with a time of 1:30.72. The relay team of John Freeman, Mark McLaughlin, Liam Straker, and Ricky Billig finished right behind with a time of 1:33.46. The Friars swept this event, taking home a maximum 15 points.
The Providence Women will rejoin the Men as the Friars travel to Worcester, Mass. next Saturday, Jan. 20, to take on Holy Cross at 1:00PM.
