GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Emily Landry (Orangeville, Ontario) scored her first goal of the season at the 11:04 mark of the first. Cassidy MacPherson (Oakville, Ontario) created a turnover and pushed the puck to Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden). Hjalmarsson fed Landry on the 2-on-1 rush and Landry roofed a shot to make it 1-0.
- MacPherson's assist was her fourth of the season. She has now recorded at least one point in three of the last four games. Hjalmarsson's helper was her sixth.
- Merrimack held a 24-9 advantage in shot attempts during the opening period. Providence blocked 11 shots to help keep the shots on goal even at six apiece.
- Avery Fransoo (North Battleford, Saskatchewan) headed to the box for hooking with 15:51 left in the second period. Merrimack wasted little time on the power play, converting 30 seconds in. Paige Voight scored her sixth of the season, slipping a backhand shot through the five-hole of Madison Myers (Colchester, Vt.).
- Christina Putigna (Grimsby, Ontario) put Providence back on top just 2:50 later. Ariane Julien (Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec) took a shot from the point that Putigna redirected past Samantha Ridgewell.
- Putigna's goal was her sixth of the season, and fifth in the last five games. She's currently on a six-game point streak for Providence. Julien's assist was her third of the season.
- Maureen Murphy (Buffalo, N.Y.) was credited with the secondary assist on Putigna's goal. Like Putigna, she's also on a six-game point streak. The assist was her third of the weekend.
- Kate Friesen (Altona, Manitoba) extended the Friars' lead with less than six minutes remaining in the middle stanza. Her shot from the point beat Ridgewell to make it 3-1. Fransoo and MacPherson earned assists on the play.
- MacPherson's second assist of the day gave her two points for the second time this season. It marked the first multi-assist game of her senior season.
- Fransoo's assist was her fifth in the last five games.
- Voight scored her second of the day for the Warriors just 32 seconds into the third period. Her shot from the low slot was assisted by Dominika Laskova and Felila Manu and made the score 3-2.
- Murphy then scored back-to-back goals for Providence to extend the lead back to 5-2. Her goals came just over two minutes apart and were both assisted by Putigna.
- Mikyla Grant-Mentis attempted to help Merrimack build a comeback, scoring at the 16:39 mark of the final period. She made the score 5-3 before Providence was able to close out the victory.
- Murphy finished with three points for the third time this season and second time this weekend. Putigna notched three points for the second time this season.
- Eight different players tallied a point for Providence in the game.
- Madison Myers made 17 saves for Providence, while Ridgewell made 16 for Merrimack.
- The Friars have not recorded 10 wins through 12 games since the 1996-97 season. That season started 11-2-0 for Providence.
