2020 World Junior Championship Coverage
 
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College freshman 
Parker Ford (Wakefield, R.I.) was named to the U.S. National Junior Team preliminary roster set to compete for a spot on the final 23-man roster for the 2020 World Junior Championship. The 28-man preliminary roster was announced today (Dec. 9) on NHL Network's 
NHL Now, while the final 23-man roster is expected to be announced on Dec. 24.
 
Ford, who was the only undrafted player to participate in the 2019 World Junior Summer Showcase this past July, finished off the first half at Providence College with six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 17 games played. The 14 points rank eighth among NCAA rookies, while his 12 even strength points and +13 rating are good for first among all NCAA freshmen.
 
The 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship will take place in Ostrava and Trinec, Czech Republic, from Dec. 26, 2019 through Jan. 5, 2020. It is the fourth time the Czech Republic will host the event. The 2020 U.S. National Junior Team will compete in Group B alongside Russia, Canada, Czech Republic and Germany. The U.S. enters the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship having claimed four-straight medals in tournament play for the first time in U.S. history. In addition to its silver medal in 2019, the U.S. has earned one gold (2017) and two bronze (2016, 2018) in that span. 
 
The 28-man preliminary roster will participate in camp in Plymouth, Mich. at USA Hockey Arena from Dec. 16-17 before playing a pair of pre-tournament games in the Czech Republic against Sweden (Dec. 22) and Germany (Dec. 23).
