No. 17 Friars Rally From Two-Goal Third Period Deficit To Sweep New Hampshire

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brett Berard, Tyce Thompson, and Jamie Engelbert all scored in the opening 4:59 of the final period as the No. 17 Providence College men's hockey team rallied from a two-goal deficit to a 3-2 win over New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon at Schneider Arena.

NOTES
-UNH's Angus Crookshank got the Wildcats on the board early, 1:24 into the game with his fourth goal of the season.
-The Friars successfully held the Wildcats off the scoreboard on a full 5-on-3 UNH power play after Brett Berard and Greg Printz were called for boarding and holding, respectively. Providence finished the night a perfect 7-of-7 on the penalty kill.
-The Wildcats improved their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Eric MacAdams at 17:26 of the second period.
-UNH's Kohei Sato was ejected for contact to the head at 18:27 of the second period, giving the Friars power play for five minutes. Providence carried the power play into the third period with 3:27 left in the penalty.
-Brett Berard finally broke through for the Friars on the power play at 1:21, assisted by Ben Mirageas and Matt Tugnutt. Tugnutt fed Berard for a one-timer, cutting the deficit 2-1 for his second goal of the year.
-Tyce Thompson got on the board with his sixth of the season at 3:32 to equalize the score at 2-2 just as the power play ended. Patrick Moynihan earned the assist on Thompson's goal.
-Jamie Engelbert followed up at 4:59 to put the Friars ahead 3-2 on his second goal of the season and of the weekend. Engelbert forced a turnover along the Wildcat goal line and stuffed a shot short side on Robinson.
-Jaxson Stauber finished the night with 29 saves to improve his season totals to a 1.76 GAA and .930 save percentage.
-Providence extended its unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2) and earned its first sweep of the 2020-21 season.
-The Friars outscored the Wildcats by a 7-0 margin in third periods of this weekend's series.
