Last Time Out
-UNH's Angus Crookshank got the Wildcats on the board early, 1:24 into the game with his fourth goal of the season.
-The Friars successfully held the Wildcats off the scoreboard on a full 5-on-3 UNH power play after Brett Berard and Greg Printz were called for boarding and holding, respectively. Providence finished the night a perfect 7-of-7 on the penalty kill.
-The Wildcats improved their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Eric MacAdams at 17:26 of the second period.
-UNH's Kohei Sato was ejected for contact to the head at 18:27 of the second period, giving the Friars power play for five minutes. Providence carried the power play into the third period with 3:27 left in the penalty.
-Brett Berard finally broke through for the Friars on the power play at 1:21, assisted by Ben Mirageas and Matt Tugnutt. Tugnutt fed Berard for a one-timer, cutting the deficit 2-1 for his second goal of the year.
-Tyce Thompson got on the board with his sixth of the season at 3:32 to equalize the score at 2-2 just as the power play ended. Patrick Moynihan earned the assist on Thompson's goal.
-Jamie Engelbert followed up at 4:59 to put the Friars ahead 3-2 on his second goal of the season and of the weekend. Engelbert forced a turnover along the Wildcat goal line and stuffed a shot short side on Robinson.
-Jaxson Stauber finished the night with 29 saves to improve his season totals to a 1.76 GAA and .930 save percentage.
-Providence extended its unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2) and earned its first sweep of the 2020-21 season.
-The Friars outscored the Wildcats by a 7-0 margin in third periods of this weekend's series.
 
World Juniors Success
- The 2021 World Junior Championship concluded on Tuesday night as the United States, led by Head Coach Nate Leaman, downed previously undefeated Canada, 2-0. Friars Director of Hockey Operations Theresa Feaster became the first female member of a WJC coaching staff and first to win a gold medal. Student-athletes Brett Berard and Patrick Moynihan had successful performances in the tournament as Berard posted one goal, four assists and a +8 rating while Moynihan chipped in with two assists and a +1 rating. They became the fourth and fifth members of the program to win a gold medal at the tournament.
 
Three Current and Future Friars Drafted
Forwards Brett Berard and Chase Yoder were both selected on day two of the 2020 NHL Draft in October. Berard was selected by the New York Rangers in the fifth round (134th overall), while Yoder was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the sixth round (170th overall). Future Friar Riley Duran was taken by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round (182nd overall).
 
Meet the New Guys
Providence welcomed in a seven-member incoming class for this season - four freshmen and three transfer student-athletes. The freshmen are: Brett Berard, Nick Poisson, Uula Ruikka and Chase Yoder. Sophomore Jaxson Stauber is a transfer from Minnesota State, while Matt Tugnutt and Anton Martinsson are graduate transfers from Sacred Heart and Alaska Fairbanks, respectively.
 
A Shorthanded Weapon
Graduate transfer Matt Tugnutt is the nation's active career leader in shorthanded goals with five.
 
Spreading Out the Points
Twenty-one different Friars had at least one point last season. Through 16 games in 2020-21, 20 players have recorded at least one point while 18 players have tallied at least one goal.
 
Stauber Backstops The Friars
Since becoming eligible on Dec. 13, Jaxson Stauber has posted a 1.76 GAA and a .930 save percentage in 14 games, stopping 331-of-356 shots.
 
Returning Production
Providence ranked sixth in the nation with 84 goals that returned this season. The 82% of returning goals ranked fourth nationally. The Friars also returned 76% of their points from last season, which also ranked sixth.
 
Youth Movement
The Friars have the 10th youngest roster in the NCAA this season (average age of 21 years, 181 days). Freshman Brett Berard is the fifth youngest player on an NCAA roster this year.
 
Seeking Seven
Providence holds the nation's second longest-active NCAA appearance streak, having made a sixth- straight tournament appearance in 2018-19. Denver leads the pack with 12-straight appearances.
 
Three is the Magic Number
The Friars are 170-19-19 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
 
After 40
The Friars are 154-7-17 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods, with one of those seven losses coming on Jan. 15 against Maine.
 
Leaman Seeks No. 200 at Providence
With his next win, Head Coach Nate Leaman will record his 200th career win at Providence College.
 
Third Period Momentum
The Friars outscored UNH by a 7-0 margin in third periods last weekend and have a 20-14 (+6) margin overall this season in the third period.

Scouting the Warriors
The Warriors enter this weekend's series after getting swept by UConn last weekend in a home-and-home set by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Freshman Alex Jefferies leads the team with 10 points on four goals and six assists, while Zach Vinnell and Filip Forsmark have each posted seven points in 12 games played. All three netminders have seen action this season, with freshman Zach Borgiel getting the majority of the starts, posting a 3.17 GAA and .872 save percentage in 10 games played. Sophomore Troy Kobryn allowed just two goals in two games against the Friars in 2019-20.
 
Series History vs. Merrimack (PC leads 90-34-12, .706)
Providence is 5-2-1 in the last eight against Merrimack, but the Warriors swept the 2019-20 season series last February by virtue of 2-0 and 3-2 wins over the Friars. Prior to last year, Providence had outscored Merrimack 25-9 in the previous four meetings.
