No. 15 Men's Hockey's Third Period Rally Falls Short at UConn

STORRS, Conn. – Trailing 5-0 entering the third period, the No. 15 Providence College men's hockey team scored three times in the opening 6:23, but couldn't inch any closer in an eventual 5-3 loss to UConn in the regular season finale on Friday night at Freitas Ice Forum. With the loss, Providence will be the fifth seed in the Hockey East Tournament and travel back to Storrs to face the Huskies next Sunday (March 14).

NOTES
- The Huskies netted three goals on the power play in the opening period – all off the stick of Jachym Kondelik and Hudson Schandor added another to give UConn a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes.
- Jonny Evans gave the Huskies a 5-0 just 24 seconds into the second period.
- UConn held a 20-10 shot advantage in the middle period.
- The Friars responded with three goals right out of the gate in the first 6:23 of the third period.
- Tyce Thompson notched his 10th of the season with a power play strike to get Providence on the board.
- Parker Ford chipped in with his fifth of the year just 56 seconds later.
- Senior John McDermott, playing in his 91st career game, netted his first collegiate goal on a re-direct from a Michael Callahan point shot.
- Vomacka shut the door down the stretch as UConn secured home ice in next Sunday's quarterfinal matchup.
