Last Time Out
- The Huskies netted three goals on the power play in the opening period – all off the stick of Jachym Kondelik and Hudson Schandor added another to give UConn a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes.
- Jonny Evans gave the Huskies a 5-0 just 24 seconds into the second period.
- UConn held a 20-10 shot advantage in the middle period.
- The Friars responded with three goals right out of the gate in the first 6:23 of the third period.
- Tyce Thompson notched his 10th of the season with a power play strike to get Providence on the board.
- Parker Ford chipped in with his fifth of the year just 56 seconds later.
- Senior John McDermott, playing in his 91st career game, netted his first collegiate goal on a re-direct from a Michael Callahan point shot. McDermott also registered his first career multi-point effort.
 
Playoff Nuggets
- Under Nate Leaman, Providence is 15-13 overall in the Hockey East Tournament dating back 2012.
- Over that span, the Friars hold a 12-8 record in the quarterfinal round - all of those games were a part of best-of-three situations. Sunday marks the first single-elimination quarterfinal scenario for Providence since 1995. All-time, the Friars are 4-1 in single-elimination quarterfinal situations.
- Sunday also marks the first playoff matchup between the two schools. UConn is 0-8 all-time in Hockey East Tournament games and 0-2 in the quarterfinal round. UConn's last appearance in the Hockey East Quarterfinals was in 2018, where they were swept by Boston University.
- The Friars make their 33rd quarterfinal appearance (31-36-1) and aim for their sixth semifinal appearance under Nate Leaman.
 
Thompson Named Second Team Hockey East All-Star
- Tyce Thompson leads the Friars with 10 goals and 12 assists in 23 games this season and earned his second-consecutive Second Team Hockey East All-Star accolade.
 
Three Current and Future Friars Drafted
Forwards Brett Berard and Chase Yoder were both selected on day two of the 2020 NHL Draft in October. Berard was selected by the New York Rangers in the fifth round (134th overall), while Yoder was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the sixth round (170th overall). Future Friar Riley Duran was taken by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round (182nd overall).
 
Meet the New Guys
Providence welcomed in a seven-member incoming class for this season - four freshmen and three transfer student-athletes. The freshmen are: Brett Berard, Nick Poisson, Uula Ruikka and Chase Yoder. Sophomore Jaxson Stauber is a transfer from Minnesota State, while Matt Tugnutt and Anton Martinsson are graduate transfers from Sacred Heart and Alaska Fairbanks, respectively.
 
Spreading Out the Points
Twenty-one different Friars had at least one point last season. Through 18 games in 2020-21, 20 players have recorded at least one point while 18 players have tallied at least one goal.
 
Stauber Backstops The Friars
Since becoming eligible on Dec. 13, Jaxson Stauber has posted a 2.07 GAA and a .917 save percentage in 20 games, stopping 465-of-507 shots.
 
Returning Production
Providence ranked sixth in the nation with 84 goals that returned this season. The 82% of returning goals ranked fourth nationally. The Friars also returned 76% of their points from last season, which also ranked sixth.
 
Youth Movement
The Friars have the 10th youngest roster in the NCAA this season (average age of 21 years, 181 days). Freshman Brett Berard is the fifth youngest player on an NCAA roster this year.
 
Seeking Seven
Providence holds the nation's second longest-active NCAA appearance streak, having made a sixth- straight tournament appearance in 2018-19. Denver leads the pack with 12-straight appearances.
 
Three is the Magic Number
The Friars are 173-19-20 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
 
After 40
The Friars are 157-7-17 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
 
Third Period Momentum
The Friars have a 33-18 (+15) margin overall this season in the third period.
 
GWGs for Everyone
Nine different players have accounted for the Friars' 10 game-winning goals this season. Sophomore Jamie Engelbert is the only Friar to record multiple game-winners this season.
 
Scouting the Huskies
A duo of juniors lead the way in scoring for UConn this season - Hockey East scoring champion Jonny Evans (14-14-28) and Jachym Kondelik (3-18-21). Kondelik registered a hat trick and an  In goal, Tomas Vomacka has logged all minutes for the Huskies in posting a 2.70 GAA and .912 save percentage in 22 starts.
 
Series History vs. UConn (PC leads 12-4-3, .711)
Sunday will mark the fourth meeting of the season between the two teams, with the home teams earning each victory. The Friars downed the Huskies by a 4-0 score back on Feb. 12 at Schneider Arena before UConn rebounded for a 5-3 win last Friday night in Storrs. Providence is 5-2-1 over the last eight matchups.
