Duran's Hat Trick Drives No. 14 Men's Hockey Past No. 5 UMass, 7-4

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Riley Duran recorded his first-career hat trick and the duo of Brett Berard and Parker Ford each recorded three points as the No. 14 Providence College men's hockey team downed No. 5 UMass, 7-4, on Friday night at Schneider Arena.

NOTES
- Providence struck for three goals in the opening period to take a 3-0 into the locker room after 20 minutes.
- Chase Yoder got things going with his second of the season and second-career shorthanded goal after picking off a drop pass at the UMass blue line and beating Brady to the backhand.
- Riley Duran netted his fifth goal of the season on the power play at 11:50 to make it 2-0 Providence.
- Brett Berard got on the board with his first tally of the year at 13:01 as he re-directed a point shot from Max Crozier.
- Berard cashed in just 57 seconds into the second period as he beat Luke Pavicich to the short side, who came in on relief for Cole Brady.
- Tyson Dyck got the Minutemen on the board at 2:11 to make it 4-1.
- Duran scored his second power-goal goal of the evening after he tipped home Guillaume Richard's shot from the point to make it 5-1.
- Noah Ellis and Kenny Connors scored within a 2:58 stretch to cut the Providence lead to 5-3 after two periods.
- Cal Kiefiuk made it a one-goal game just 1:13 into the third period.
- Parker Ford added an insurance marker with his second tally of the season that was confirmed on replay after a UMass challenge for goaltender interference.
- Duran capped off his hat trick with an empty-net goal with 10 seconds remaining for Providence's seventh goal of the evening.
- Providence improves its record on home ice to 4-0-0 this season.
- This Friars put up their highest goal total against the Minutemen since scoring seven on Nov. 11, 2017.
- The Friar power play struck twice on Friday night against the No. 1 ranked penalty kill in the nation. UMass was 21-for-22 on the penalty kill entering Friday night's contest.
